QuinnBiopharma Joint Venture Injects Vital Investment in Ghana’s Pharmaceutical Sector

Ghana’s ambition to become a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing hub in West Africa has received a significant boost following the successful visit of a high-level delegation from GL Rapha Co., Ltd, a leading Korean biotechnology and pharmaceutical company.

The visit underscored the immense potential of the newly formed Quinn BioPharma Ltd., a joint venture between GL Rapha Co. and Ghana’s Quintex Pharma. The UK Government-funded Ghana Jobs and Economic Transformation (JET) programme, implemented in partnership with the Government of Ghana to accelerate economic transformation and drive strategic investments in manufacturing sectors, supported the successful formation of this joint venture through technical assistance and policy development to address gaps in the pharmaceutical sector.

The visit, which included courtesy calls on the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, the Ministry of Health, and the Food and Drugs Authority, culminated in a celebratory dinner marking this pivotal moment for Ghana’s industrialisation agenda. In attendance at the dinner were H.E. Charis Obetsebi Lamptey Zwennes, Former Ghanaian Ambassador to South Korea; Hon. Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on 24H+ Economy; Dr. Bernice Brempong, Presidential Advisor on Pharma; Mr. Simon Madjie, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre; and Prof. Eric Osei-Assibey, Chief Economist and Vice President of the Development Bank Ghana.

The Quinn BioPharma joint venture exemplifies the power of strategic partnerships. It brings together world-class expertise from GL Rapha, established local presence from Quintex Pharma, and crucial facilitative support from the UK Government through the Ghana JET programme. Furthermore, the engagement of the Government of Ghana, including through the Ghanaian Ambassador to South Korea, was instrumental in forging this collaboration.

By working hand-in-hand, government, development partners, and foreign investors can significantly advance Ghana’s industrialisation agenda and improve the livelihoods of its citizens.

The UK Government remains committed to supporting Ghana’s journey towards economic transformation and enhanced health security through strategic interventions and robust partnerships.
